Over 1000 rebels belonging to at least 5 Karbi insurgent outfits in Assam laid down arms in Guwahati in a function on Tuesday.
The rebels laid down their arms in a function in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakhetra in Guwahati.
Apart from Sonowal, Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council (KAADC) CEM – Tuliram Ronghang, Assam Police DG Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and several other noted dignitaries were present in the function.
Rebels from banned outfits such as PDCK, KNLF, KPLT, KLF and UPLA of Karbi Anglong laid down arms.
The militant groups have also declared unilateral ceasefire with the Government.
PDCK Chairman JK Lijang said that the outfit decided to declare “unilateral cessation of hostilities to give impetus to resolving the vexed political conflicts among all stakeholders”.
