A team of officials led by circle officer Geetali Duwarah recently conducted surprised checking in the hotel, restaurants and other commercial establishments in Dhemaji town and found illegal domestic LPG cylinder for commercial purposes.
The team during the drive seized a total of seven domestic LPG cylinders along with some bottles of Indian made foreign liquor from their storage.
The officials, who noticed unhygienic storage of sweets and other food items in the hotels and restaurants, strictly warned them to maintain hygiene.
Official sources said that report regarding the findings has been submitted to the authority, however, no persons has been booked so far in charge of illegal activities. The officials also warned errant businessmen not to use domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purpose.
Sources also informed that district administration has been conducting checking drive in the hotels and restaurants in order to prevent illegal anti-social activities time to time. The authority earlier booked and penalized some persons in such charges.
The team earlier conducted checking at two water packaging factories – one at Dhemaji town and another at Hatigarh and found some irregularities in registration process. The two factories were finally sealed by the officials.
The team also conducted checking in the shops and other business establishments in the township and seized some weights and measures instruments for not renewing these in time.
The team of officials comprised of Food Safety Officer, Lakhimpur Karuna Doley, Food & Civil Supply Inspector Annaram Pegu, Sub-inspector Kabindra Medok, veterinary officer Dr Chatrapati Goyari and officials from fishery, excise and legal metrology departments.
Earlier, Jonai sub-divisional administration in Dhemaji district last month conducted such drive against illegal use of domestic LPG and accordingly seized 27 LPG cylinders cylinders, banned imported fishes and contaminated/expired food items from their storage. They also issued strict warming to the erring businessmen to avoid such malpractices.
