A huge gathering was held at Assam’s Kokrajhar on Tuesday under the joint aegis of ABSU, NDFB (P) and People’s Joint Action Committee of Bodoland Movement (PJACBM) to press for creating separate Bodoland.

Thousands of people joined the mass gathering and shouted slogans demanding immediate solution of Bodoland imbroglio.

Talking to media, former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma said it was unfortunate that the movement groups who are demanding new states have resorted to launch series of agitation due to apathy of the Centre.

He said the time had come for the government to act as they promised.

The government of India has been systematically delaying the creation of new states in India, he said.

He also added that the ball is in the court of the Centre and government should fulfill its commitment.

Brahma said the demand of creation of separate Bodoland state is not new.

The Bodos have been demanding the separate state over the last many years.

The BJP had promised to solve the Bodoland problem once they come to power but they have forgotten their promises, he said.

“The time has come for the government to solve the Bodo problem,” he asserted.

Addressing the gathering, the chief convenor of the PJACBM Rakesh Boro said the movement for new states will be continuing until the government fulfills it.

He questioned as to why the Centre failed to create Bodoland if the same can create union territory of Laddakh and J&K and Telengana state.

He also warned that the movement for new states across the country will be harder in the days to come if the government fails to take concrete policy over the creation of new states.
