Guwahati: As senior Congress leader from Assam, Rana Goswami resigned from the party on Wednesday, the leader of the opposition at the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia has demanded Goswami reveal the reason for his resignation.
Saikia urged Goswami to publicly speak of the reasons behind his resignation from the Congress.

Saikia said that it was important for transparency, stating that Goswami’s public disclosure of grievances would not only shed light on the circumstances leading to his decision but also contribute to the improvement of the Congress party’s internal dynamics.

It may be mentioned that a day after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that Assam Congress leader Rana Goswami was most welcome to join the BJP, the latter resigned from his post as Vice President of APCC and as an active member of the Indian National Congress.

In the resignation letter addressed to the General Secretary (Organisational) KC Venugopal, Goswami wrote, “I beg to state that I am tendering my resignation as the working President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and as an active member of the Indian National Congress.”
It may be mentioned that there had been several speculations that Goswami would join the BJP which in the past he had denied several times.

However, with him resigning from the VP post on Wednesday, there is a similar hint that he might join the saffron party.
He, so far, has not made any official statement regarding his intentions or possibilities to join the BJP.

Earlier on Tuesday, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Rana Goswami is a “powerful” politician and he (Sarma) would welcome Goswami’s move to join the BJP.
