The MCI Regional Centre for Medical Education Technologies at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital in eastern Assam was inaugurated on Tuesday by Professor Vinod K Paul, member, Niti Aayog India via video conferencing.
In his address, Professor Paul said that India was heading towards s golden era in health sector. “More number of medical colleges and hospitals are coming up in the government and private sectors. Therefore more specialists and graduates of medical science shall be required. Teachers of medical colleges should take this as a mission and not as an official duty in order to produce competent indian medical graduates by constant dedication to service,” he said
He further said that they should set an example for the future generations of medical students and that all doctors should not only thrive for excellence but also for values.
Professor Paul said that recommendations for changes in the recently implementated curriculum were welcome.
The Centre for Medical Education Technologies would upgrade the teaching competency of teachers commensurate with the new MCI curriculum which would be implemented from August 2019.
The Centre would have 19 medical colleges from West Bengal, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur and Assam under it.
The inauguration took place in the presence of chief guest Professor Vijaya Raghavan, vice chancellor, Ramchandra University, Chennai; guest of honour Jayanta Goswami additional deputy commissioner; Dr Atul Chandra Baro, principal cum superintendent, JMCH; Manoj Kumar Baruah ADC Jorhat; Dr Amrit Kumar Saikia Jt Director Health Service, Jorhat; Prof Bijit Duarah, head of department, Radiology, GMCH; former professor Dr Binapani Doley of Medicine Department; medical college faculties from West Bengal, Tripura, Sikkim, Assam Medical College, Guwahati Medical College and Silchar Medical College.
The first curriculum implementation support programme for the curriculum committee teachers of the alloted medical colleges will start from Wednesday.
Medical Council of India (MCI) has rolled out the new Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) for the undergraduates to be implemented from August 2019.
