The ranking process for the award was undertaken by the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry as a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The Swachhata Ranking Award scheme was introduced by the HRD ministry in order to generate peer pressure amongst educational institutions to improve their level of campus hygiene and also take up off-campus hygiene activity in nearby villages/surrounding areas.
The ranking system was based on various parameters of hygiene like student-toilet ratio, hostel hygiene, hostel kitchen hygiene, availability of water, water conservation measures, campus greenery, administrative responsibility for hygiene etc.
While addressing the third edition of the Swachhata Ranking Award function through video conferencing, Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ asked the students to strive to achieve a zero tolerance towards anything unhygienic in the environment.
He also congratulated the winners of various categories and expressed happiness at the efforts of the educational institutions in keeping their premises clean.
