Majuli, the centre of Vaishnavite culture in Assam, on Saturday made headlines for a wrong reason.

This time, the act of a school headmaster in world famous Majuli island has raised eyebrows of everyone.

The headmaster of the Auniati Satra High School in Majuli, Prashanta Dulakasharia, has harmed the 500-year-old Sattriya tradition and culture by having the 22 students of the school had their haircuts in a haphazard manner.

The act of the headmaster has drawn sharp reactions from all quarters.

It may be mentioned that Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal is the MLA from Majuli Assembly constituency.

As per information, during the time of prayer in the morning g on Saturday, the headmaster of Auniati Satra High School in Majuli had cut the 22 students of the school in a haphazard manner on the ground that they kept their hairs long and coloured.

Feeling embarrassed at the act of the headmaster, the victimised children after reaching their respective huts in Auniati Satra broke down before their guardians while telling about the whole incident.

The senior Vaishnavite followers were shocked at the act of the headmaster as it has harmed the Sattriya culture and tradition. They also called on the deputy commissioner of Majuli district along with the victimised school children to complain him against the headmaster’s act.

Besides, lodging complaint with the deputy commissioner, a case has also been filed in Majuli police station against the headmaster.

On the other hand, the headmaster of the school when asked about his act of alleged moral policing, mentioned that he had cut the hairs of the school children for being ‘indiscipline’ and coming to the school colouring their hair.
