Guwahati: Air India will launch direct flights from Guwahati to Dubai and Abu Dhabi from August 4, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday.
In a post on X, Sarma said the new non-stop services would strengthen Assam’s international connectivity and further establish Guwahati as a regional travel hub.
With the addition of the two UAE destinations, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) will have direct links to four countries โ the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Singapore and Bhutan.
Sarma said the state government is also working to establish direct air connectivity with Vietnam.
The announcement comes days after European Union member states revised their travel advisories and removed restrictive guidance for citizens travelling to Assam.
On June 20, the Chief Minister said the move followed the recent visit of EU diplomats and would help strengthen tourism, business ties and people-to-people exchanges between Assam and European countries.
He also thanked European Union Ambassador to India Hervรฉ Delphin and the Delegation of the European Union to India for their support.
