Guwahati: A high-level delegation from the European Union (EU) will visit Assam on June 8 and 9 to strengthen economic ties with Northeast India, with a focus on boosting investment, innovation and industrial collaboration across key sectors.
The โTeam Europeโ delegation, led by EU Ambassador to India and Bhutan Hervรฉ Delphin and comprising ambassadors and senior representatives from EU member states, is scheduled to meet Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other state officials during the visit.
Discussions are expected to centre on expanding cooperation in areas such as semiconductors, renewable energy, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, electronics manufacturing, tea, food processing, sustainable urban development, AYUSH, and fragrance-based industries. The visit aims to identify opportunities for building stronger value chains and attracting European investment to Assam and the wider Northeast region.
A key highlight of the programme will be the launch of Assamโs first Blue Valley Cluster, an industrial ecosystem designed to foster innovation, research, sustainable manufacturing and business partnerships between Europe, Northeast India and Bhutan.
Focused on fragrances, flavours, AYUSH products, and food processing, the cluster is being developed through a public-private-people partnership model and is part of the broader Blue Valleys initiative announced during the 2026 EU-India Summit.
European business leaders accompanying the delegation will also engage with state authorities and industry stakeholders to explore trade and investment prospects in the region.
On June 9, the delegation will participate in the โBlue Valleys: Building Ecosystems and Value Chains between India and Europeโ workshop in Guwahati, which will bring together Indian and European businesses to discuss collaboration in sustainable industries, innovation, and value-chain development.
According to the EU, the Blue Valleys initiative seeks to strengthen industrial clusters, MSME networks and sector-specific value chains while promoting environmentally sustainable economic growth. Priority sectors include clean energy, bamboo-based industries, natural ingredients, eco-friendly textiles, biotechnology, wellness products, and smart manufacturing.
The delegation will also visit Tata Electronicsโ semiconductor facility in Assam, highlighting the growing international interest in the stateโs emerging role in Indiaโs semiconductor and electronics manufacturing sector.
โNorth-East India, with Assam at its heart, has tremendous potential. Through initiatives such as Blue Valleys, we are creating long-term business partnerships that can generate growth and opportunities for both the EU and India,โ Ambassador Delphin said.
The visit follows the adoption of the Comprehensive Strategic Agenda by India and the European Union at their summit in New Delhi earlier this year. Officials believe the engagement marks a significant step in translating broader strategic commitments into tangible economic partnerships at the state level, while unlocking the vast economic potential of Northeast India through investment-led and sustainable development.
