Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi attended 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev at Guru Nanak Senior Secondary School in Guwahati on Tuesday.
Attending the gurudwara he greeted the people on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti and also prayed for the welfare of all sections of the people of the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Prof Mukhi said, “Guru Nanak’s preaching came at a time when there were conflicts among the people belonging different religion beliefs.”
“Mankind was intoxicated with pride and ego. During that period God had sent one of his incarnations to teach humanity the language of love, harmony, respect and tranquility who had emphasized on the importance of equality of mankind,” he added.
“He condemned slavery and racial discrimination and said that all are equal,” the Governor reiterated.
The Governor hailed the efforts of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating the Kartarpur corridor at Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdsapur which has led the pilgrims to visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.
He also said that several programmes have been taken up by the Central Government nationally and globally to highlight the contributions and the teachings of Guru Nanak.
Expressing his gratitude for having been invited to the function he extended his wishes to all the followers and said that he sincerely believed that the celebrations of this event will strengthen the bond of universal brotherhood and the feeling of harmonious co-existence in the society.
