Assam scribes will be tested for COVID-19 on Saturday, informed state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday Sarma said, “Journalists in Assam are working hard to report round the clock on COVID-19.

“In the line of their duty, the scribes are facing professional hazards and, hence we have decided to carry out tests for them free of cost on April 25, Saturday”, Sarma added.

“Scribes who want to get themselves tested can come to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital on April 25 and take the test,” Sarma added.

He further said that during the test, all protocols related to COVID-19 will be maintained.

Assam journalists had appealed the state government for conducting COVID-19 tests, after several scribes in Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi recently tested positive.

Calling it to be a much-needed step for the safety and welfare of the scribes, the Guwahati Press Club (GPC) welcomed the move.
