Golaghat police have recovered an idol of Lord Vishnu and an elephant tusk at Titabar in Jorhat district of eastern Assam on Saturday.
Apart from recovering the precious items, the police have also arrested one man in connection with the incident.
Golaghat superintendent of police, Pushparaj Singh told reporters that based on a tip-off the police carried out an investigation in Matikhola village near Titabar police station and soon recovered the items.
A resident of Matikhola village identified as Bulu Saikia (35) had hidden the 3.575 kg Vishnu idol along with the 2.80 kg elephant tusk in his house.
Police have assumed that the idol is made of gold. However, police officials said the real value of the idol will be discovered only after it has been tested.
It may be mentioned that the Lord Vishnu idol and the elephant tusk have been recovered shortly after the astadhatu (an alloy of gold, silver, copper, zinc, lead, tin, iron and mercury) idol of Goddess Ugratara was recovered from a village in Nalbari district by a team of Golaghat police.
