Udalguri: The Udalguri district and sessions court in Assam has sentenced five individuals to life imprisonment for the murder of a person named Sahid Jamal in 2017.
The incident took place at Kalaigaon in Udalguri district of Assam in 2017.
Udalguri district and sessions Judge N Senabaya Deori delivered the verdict on June 20, convicting Tomser Ali, Md Lal Miah, Md Aibar Ali, Badsa Mondal and Gajibur Rahman under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each convict.
The gruesome incident occurred on May 5, 2017, when the perpetrators visited Sahid Jamal’s home in Borjhar Bagicha village, Kalaigaon.
They called him out and brutally attacked him with lethal weapons, causing multiple internal injuries.

Several of Jamal’s family members were also critically injured in the attack.
Jamal was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati, Assam where he succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
Following the incident, a family member of the victim lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with the Bhakatpara police outpost in Assam.
The police subsequently registered a case (case no. 43/17) under sections 148, 149, 302, and 34 of the IPC.
After an extensive trial and the examination of numerous witnesses, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment for life.
In addition to the life sentences, the court directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide compensation of Rs 5 lakhs to Sahid Jamal’s family under Section 357 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), which empowers the court to award compensation to victims upon passing a judgment of conviction.
