Guwahati: In a dramatic last-minute development, Congress candidate Suren Daimari for the Udalguri (ST) Assembly constituency, has withdrawn his candidature and resigned from the party.

Daimari was in the fray against the United Peopleโ€™s Party Liberal (UPPL) candidate Dipen Boro and the Bodoland Peopleโ€™s Front (BPF) nominee Rihon Daimary. Following his withdrawal, the contest in Udalguri is now set to be between the UPPL and the BPF.

His exit comes a before polling on April 9 and is expected to impact the Congressโ€™s prospects in the constituency.

Polling for the Assam Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 2.
