Eviction drive being conducted at Alikash in Darrang district

The district administration on Monday carried out a major eviction drive against illegal construction in one of the largest wholesale weekly vegetable markets at Alikash under Dalgaon revenue circle in Assam’s Darrang district.

A team of officials led by Dalgaon circle officer Sameer Choudhury destroyed as many as 244 illegal structures in the Balugaon market at Alikash.

Traders from across Assam and also from neighbouring states like Mizoram and Tripura purchase vegetables from this market.

Sameer Choudhury said, “The district administration had earlier served notices to the traders for illegally constructing buildings. We conducted the eviction drive today.”

“The operational team well equipped with bulldozers, labourers and armed security personnels didn’t face any resistance from the traders,” he said.
