In their ongoing drive against drug peddlers, the Dhubri Police on Wednesday arrested four people.

The Dhubri Police arrested two drug paddlers from the Islam Nagar area (AMCo Road) in Dhubri town.

The arrested drug paddlers have been identified as Mir Salim and Nur Alom, residents of the Islam Nagar area.

The police also recovered suspected brown sugar, narcotic tablets and cough syrups from their possession.

In another operation, conducted by the Gauripur Police of Dhubri district, the police were able to arrest another drug paddler, identified as Joydhar Ali from Jhaler-alga village and recovered the contraband goods from his possession.

Another drug peddler, identified as Ramjan Ali, was arrested from the Suparighat area under Gauripur police station of Dhubri district and the police recovered a huge quantity of banned cough syrups and other objectionable contraband tablets.

Dhubri additional superintendent of police (ASP) Rosyrani Sarma said the police are trying to break the whole nexus of drug peddling in the district and they are keeping close vigilance on the movement of suspicious people.

“A number of names have come forward and soon more surprise raids will be conducted accordingly,” said police officer Sarma.

Police sources said in the last couple of days, dozens of drug peddlers have been arrested and contraband materials have been seized.
