The Dhubri police foiling a dacoity attempt have arrested seven persons of a gang from Salkocha under the Chapar Police Station in Lower Assam’s Dhubri district.

The accused have been identified as Habizur Rahma resident of Kochuwargaon village ,Rahidul Hoque of Kochuwargaon village, Mostafizur Rahman of Botertol, Mobarak Hussain of Mazpara, Insan Ali of Chatapara and Ali Akbar of Chatapara village, all under the Bilasipara police station.

Abdul Hai, another accused hailed from Lalkura Foujder Char under Chapar Police Station.

According to sources, police swung into action on Friday after receiving information of a few men carrying sharp weapons to carry out a robbery in the Salkocha area.

A police team led by Bilasipara sub-divisional police officer, Bhargav Muni Das accompanied by Sushant Singh rushed to the spot and nabbed two persons, while two more were picked up while they were trying to flee.

The police nabbed three more members of the gang during a raid.

They also recovered a number of sharp-edged weapons and iron rods from their possession.

The seven accused have reportedly admitted to attempting the robbery in the locality during interrogation.

They have also confessed to being involved in a number of robbery cases at different places in the Dhubri district.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Dhubri police through its social media platform has made an appeal to the public to report anything they may know about the particular gang.
