The Dhemaji district administration of Assam is on maximum alert after report of blockade of the mainstream of Yarlung Zangbo/Brahmaputra River in Tibet.

A notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Dhemaji, Roshni Aparanji Korati on Friday stated that there are chances of it bursting.
However, according to Central Water Commission (CWC), the impact on Assam would be minimal as water levels of Brahmaputra are low.

Meanwhile, water levels might cross high flood level at Pasighat, if the blockade breaches.
There might be temporary rise in water levels in Dhemaji district too.

As such the Dhemaji district administration has issued an advisory to the people in the riverine areas not to venture into the Brahmaputra for fishing, swimming, collecting driftwood, etc.
The Deputy Commissioner, through the notification also said that the district administration is closely monitoring the water levels and the situation as of now is normal.

However, the district administration is prepared to face any eventuality.
The Deputy Commissioner further pacified the people stating that there is no need to panic.

On the other hand, the Dibrugarh district administration has The Dibrugarh district administration has suspended all ferry services between Dibrugarh and Dhemaji for indefinite period.

The step has been taken as a precautionary measure after the flood alert was issued in Dibrugarh, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Tinsukia districts following the massive landslide in China’s Yarlung Tsangpo River.
