Guwahati: The Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia once again has been summoned by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Assam and is asked to appear before it on March 6 for questioning.

He has been summoned in connection with a clash reported during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

The order issued by the Assam CID states that Debabrata Saikia is required to appear for questioning regarding the incident that took place on January 23, 2024, when a clash broke out as the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered Guwahati.

Allegedly, Congress workers broke police barricades near the Khanapara point in Guwahati in the presence of Rahul Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders.

The CID order, issued under Section 41A of the CrPC, highlights the necessity to ascertain facts and circumstances about the case registered at the Basistha Police Station.

The order stated that failure to comply with the directive may result in potential arrest under Section 41A (3) of the CrPC.

Earlier, Debabrata Saikia was asked to appear at the CID Police Station in Ulubari on March 1, but the new directive sets the appearance date for March 6.
