Darrang district administration in association with the local units of Assam Sarba Siksha Abhiyan and Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission has taken up Aspiration district pilot project to improve the female literacy rate of the district.

The programme called ‘Prayasee’ aimed at targeting the female beneficiary above 15 years of age of 30 selected villages will have volunteers from State Rural Livelihood Mission as their educators with the help of the head masters of the respective village schools.

The programme was launched by Darrang deputy commissioner,  Ghanshyam Dass at Adhamapara village near Mangaldai recently in presence of district development commissioner Sweety Gogoi Kalita, district mission coordinator, SSA, Darrang Dr Jawahira Tabassum, district mission coordinator, ASRLM, Darrang Dipak Sutradhar etc.

Speaking on the occasion deputy commissioner Dass said the pilot project aims at imparting education to 100 female adults for a duration of three months.

He hoped that enhancing female literacy will help enhancing the development of the district as it is key factor of all round development.

Darrang recorded female literacy rate of 60.4 per cent as per the last census in 2011.
