Assam Congress organised a state-wide Padyatra’ in protest against the rising prices of essential commodities.
Under the leadership of APCC president Bhupen Borah, a protest rally was organised in the Ghoramora area in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh on Sunday.
Talking to media persons, Bhupen Borah said, “Due to skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and hike in the price of petrol and diesel, the common people are facing immense problems. The BJP government has failed to control the price hike of essential commodities.”
Borah said, “In the name of free rice, they are hiking the price of other essential commodities. Due to the price hike, everybody has been facing financial hardship.”
“The BJP has spent lakhs of rupees in the recently concluded by-elections. We have organised the rally to pressurise the government to control the price hike,” Borah said.
Hundreds of Congress members participated in the Padyatra and raised slogans against the BJP government for its failure to control the price rise of essential commodities.
Borah criticized the BJP for failing to fullfil their promises made during the election campaign in Assam.
“As the opposition, we will continue our protest against the BJP government and demand to control the price hike of essential commodities,” Borah said.
Former Union minister Ranee Narah also joined the Padyatra.
