Assam Congress leader and Samaguri MLA Rakibul Hussain has tested positive for COVID19 on Sunday.
The news has been confirmed by Hussain in a Facebook post.
Hussain, who was a former Assam minister, in a Facebook post at 5.29 pm on Sunday, said, “I have been tested positive of Covid19 just a few minutes back.”
The MLA has requested those who came in contact with him in the last four days to get themselves tested for COVID19.
“Request everyone who came in contact with me in last 4 days to get themselves tested,” Hussain said.
According to reports, the MLA’s wife Nazreen Hussain and a niece have also tested positive for the virus.
On Saturday, Assam registered 1,457 new COVID19 positive cases, taking the state’s overall tally to 41,726.
A total of 1,085 patients, who were earlier infected by COVID19, were discharged on Saturday, taking the total number of discharged cases to 31,442.
Assam currently has 10,180 COVID19 active patients.
The deadly disease has so far claimed the lives of 101 people.
On Saturday, three more positive patients died of COVID19 infections in the state.
