Acting on a specific input, Hojai District Legal Services Authority (DSLA) along with officials of ChildLine and Lanka Police foiled a child marriage bid in Lanka in Hojai district on Thursday night.
As per sources one Hazrat Ali, aged around 48 years, was all set to marry a 15-year-old when the officials reached the spot and foiled the marriage bid.
The rescue team was led by DLSA general secretary Pronita Morang and it comprised of Officer-in-Charge Lanka police station B Sarma, ASI Manjul Ali and others.
The rescued girl was later handed over to ChildLine for medical examination and proper counselling.
However, Hazrat Ali managed to escape from the spot and the police are investigating the incident.
Notably, around 40 attempted child marriages have been stopped in Hojai after the formation of DSLA.
