Over 5000 workers from other parties, particularly AIUDF and Congress have joined the BJP in Dhubri, Gauripur and Golakganj assembly constituencies in the past few months.

BJP has been conducting a membership drive in these three constituencies to induct new members and strengthen its political base.

The BJP has inducted around 500 supporters of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) in the Gauripur constituency, said Dhubri district president Debamoy Sanyal on Monday.

Three-time BPF MLA Banendra Kumar Mushary who represented the Gauripur constituency from 1996 to 2016, also joined the BJP on Monday during an induction ceremony at the Public Library in Gauripur.

BPF has had a stronghold in the Gauripur constituency, but AIUDF captured the seat with its part candidate Nijanur Rahman defeating Mushary in the 2016 assembly elections.

Dhubri district vice-president Prasanjit Dutta and general secretaries Bhagirat Ojha and Bishwajit Roy along with other party leaders were present during the induction ceremony.

Sanyal said, “We are working round the clock to secure all the three assembly seats of Dhubri, Gauripur and Golakganj and we have named this as Mission Three.”

Of the three assembly seats under the Dhubri election district at present BJP has a lone MLA in Golakganj while Dhubri and Gauripur constituencies have been occupied by AIUDF.
