Assam: Baksa police nabs one for acid attack on street dogs

Gautam Basak, who threw acid on five street dogs in baksa in Assam

Baska police have arrested a man for killing one street dog and injuring four in an acid attack in Jhakhalipothar area in Barpeta road in Baksa district.

The incident occurred on December 17 when the accused, 43-year-old Gautam Basak threw acid on the five street dogs.

The accused has been remanded in judicial custody in Baksa.

Nirmal Das, a local youth who had witnessed the incident, contacted ‘The Wagging Tail’ a local organization working towards animal welfare.

Members of the organization rushed to the spot and rescued the injured animals.

The Wagging Tail along with Purr Paws and Anaajoree, two NGOs working for the welfare of animals, filed a police complaint against the accused at the Gobardhana Police Station.

Rajen Boro, in-charge of the Simlaguri Police Station said, “We had launched an operation and finally managed to arrest the culprit involved in the acid attack on the dogs.”

Assamese actor, Rajkumar Talukdar who has been working for the safety of animals in various places of Assam has also demanded strict punishment for the accused.
