Assam: Unaccounted cash of Rs 2 crore recovered from Railway staff’s residence in Barpeta, held

Police in a pre-dawn raid on Saturday arrested an Indian Railway employee and recovered unaccounted cash of more than Rs 2 crore from his residence in lower Assam’s Barpeta district.

The arrested railway staff has been identified as Debraj Das.

Barpeta police arrested Das during a raid at his residence at Gandhi Nagar in Barpeta town.

Police said acting on a tip off, a team of police led by Barpeta DSP Madan Ch Kalita raided his house and recovered the cash during the raid.

In a separate incident, police arrested one more accused person from Bongaigaon district in the Assam police SI recruitment scam.

A team of Bongaigaon police and Crime Branch arrested Rupam Das from his in law’s residence at Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon district in the wee hours on Saturday.

Police said Rupam is a close associate of another accused Rubul Hazarika, who was arrested by police from Nalbari on Friday.

Hazarika is a shareholder of Akshay Telecommunication, the agency, which conducted SI examination.
