On the 7th day of ‘One-week targeted SVEEP programme’, the district administration of Goalpara adopted an innovative way on Wednesday to increase voter turnout on the day of polling on April 6.

The voters in Goalpara district will exercise their franchise in the third phase of the three-phased Assam Assembly election 2021 on April 6.

The Goalpara deputy commissioner-cum-returning officer Varnali Deka on Wednesday launched a boat to create awareness among the voters in the char areas of the district so that they come out in large numbers and cast their votes on the day of voting.

Deputy commissioner Deka launched the boat embellished with voter awareness banners, cutouts with SVEEP messages and EVM at Kachari Ghat to create awareness among the voters to come forward and give their mandate.

During the inaugural ceremony, the district election officer said, “This boat will visit the different interior riverine areas in the next few days for creating awareness among the people of the areas where the vote percentage is less than 10% from district average.”

The district election officer appealed to the people of the district to come out on April 6 and cast their valuable votes.

The Goalpara deputy commissioner also felicitated a new young voter from amongst the public.

The surprise trick was well received by the attendants and they promised in return not to miss the voting opportunity.

In the last one week of special SVEEP drive to increase the voting percentage in the district, deputy commissioner Varnali Deka has left no stone unturned.

On Tuesday, she celebrated Holi and Rangoli festival inside the office campus by inviting the members of the local women Self Help Groups.

Even the female sex workers, physically-challenged persons, drug addict youths have found their places in the special SVEEP drive, which has been well planned by the deputy commissioner herself.

The first phase of the Assam Assembly election was held on March 27 while the second phase of the polls will be held on April 1.

The counting of the votes in the Assam Assembly election will be held on May 2, 2021.
