As the Election Commission gears up for ensuing Assam Assembly election 2021, the Goalpara district administration on Thursday organised an extraordinary awareness meeting for the local female sex workers.

The meeting was organised at the Agricultural Training Centre in Goalpara town on Thursday.

It was a part of the innovative initiatives taken by the SVEEP cell of the Goalpara district administration to enhance polling percentage.

The meeting was directly addressed by the district election officer-cum-deputy commissioner of Goalpara, Varnali Deka.

Besides the female professional group, dozens of drug addicts and the youths, who were freed from drug, were invited by the district administration to participate in the meeting.

During the interaction, deputy commissioner Varnali Deka asserted that voting is not only a personal right rather it is a tool to strengthen the democracy and a great responsibility too.

The district election officer also appealed to the participants to create awareness among their neighbours and relatives to come out on April 6 and exercise their voting right in the district.

The ensuing Assam Assembly election will be held in three phases – March 27, April 1 and April 6, 2021.

The Assembly constituencies in Goalpara district will go to polls in the third and final phase, on paril 6.

In the same meeting, the participants were administered oath on casting of votes.

Dr. Hitesh Mazumdar, the in-charge of SVEEP cell and Anwesha Saikia, another cell officer, also attended the programme and coordinated for its smooth functioning.
