Over 2.65 lakh objections and 31 lakh claims have been filed so far on the draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
However, only around 700 objections have been filed a couple of days back since the process of filing of objections and claims on the draft of the NRC started on September 23, 2018.

The number of people filing objections has increased significantly during the last two days before the last date of filing of claims and objections and the actual number is yet to be ascertained, according to a report in the Assam Tribune.
Most of the objections have been filed in the districts of Barpeta, Nagaon, Morigaon and Kamrup.
All the claims and objections received would be digitized. The process of issuing notices to the concerned persons would start from January 31 and the process of hearings for verifications would start from February 15.

The NRC Coordinator’s office have hired people to deliver notices to the concerned persons and the hearings would be conducted by Class I officers of the Assam government.
According to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) cleared by the Supreme Court, between 1,500 to 2,500 officers would be engaged in the process.
However, the date for completion of the process of verification for publication of the final draft of NRC is yet to be finalized.
