The Assam Pharmacy Council (APC) has decided to take strict action against fake pharmacies of the entire state.
The council has been strictly monitoring pharmacists who are running their business establishments without necessary documents and qualifications.
APC officials said that there are almost 900 registered pharmacies in Kamrup (Metro) and 10000 pharmacies in the entire state.
Bhuban Chandra Das, registrar of APC said that till now they have identified 754 fake pharmacies in Assam. Cases have been registered against fake pharmacists.
The APC have now set up a detailed plan of registering pharmacies who come for fresh registration. They will verify all the documents of the applicants with respective authorities.
The applicants will be registered only after the verification report has been received from the respective authorities.
As per section 62A of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945, restricted licenses in Forms 200A and 210A can be issued subject to the discretion of the licensing authority to dealers or persons in respect of drugs whose sale does not require the supervision of a qualified person.
The growing cases of fake registration is the outcome of the misuse of powers by the registration tribunals which were actually constituted to bifurcate the register of pharmacists for administrative purpose as provisioned under the law.
Assam Pharmacy Council is a statutory body constituted by the Government of Assam. Their prime function is to grant registration and renewal thereof to the eligible candidate possessing requisite qualifications as per the provisions of section 32(2) of the Pharmacy Act & to enforce the necessary provisions of the Pharmacy act 1948.
