Congress veteran and former union minister P Chidambaram has appealed all the anti-BJP parties in the Northeast to unite against the saffron party.
“Anti-BJP parties in Northeast must unite and fight together against the saffron party to overthrow it from power,” Chidambaram said.
Chidambaram was in Guwahati for the three-day state-level training camp of the Assam Congress held at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakhetra.
Indicating at defection of Congress MLAs in Assam to the BJP Chidambaram said: “Politicians should adhere to the party ideologies even if it loses an election,”

Responding to a query on “Congress-mukt Northeast”, the senior Congress leader said that “there was a time when all the Northeast states were under Congress rule”.
He added: “I wouldn’t be surprised if the former Congress leaders who are now in the BJP, return to the Congress if it wrests power in New Delhi.”
