Former secretary of Assam Cricket Association (ACA) – Pradip Buragohain has been arrested on corruption charges at Tingkong in Dibrugarh.

He was taken into custody by the team of Fatasil Police in a case no 817/2021 u/s 120 (B)/406/409/420/469/34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) registered at Fatasil Police station in Guwahati.

Notably, ACA lodged an FIR against Buragohain for alleged misuse of “crores of ACA funds” during his tenure as secretary of the body.

Meanwhile, the ACA constituted a five member accounts verification committee headed by veteran sports organizer Jamshed Khan to scrutinize the accounts and ascertain the allegations of misuse of funds.

The accounts verification committee doubts misuse of at least Rs 50 crores of ACA funds in forms of booking hotel rooms, air ticket, food during cricket events, etc.

The former secretary appeared before the committee and clarified his views on the alleged financial anomalies.

However, the committee was not satisfied with his reply.
