Northeast Now, a multi-lingual hyper-regional news portal based in Guwahati, presented its 4th Anniversary Quiz at Sudmersen Hall of Cotton University in Guwahati.
The quiz competition was organised by Northeast Now in association with Cotton University to mark the celebration of the news portal’s fourth anniversary.
In the intra-Cotton University quiz competition, the first prize was won by Ankurjyoti Sarma of History department and Anupam Mali of Geography department.
In the quiz contest, conducted by quizmaster Dipankar Kaushik, the prize for first runners-up was won by Raktim Ranjan Baishya and Tridip Bhagawati, both from Political Science department.
The team, comprising Bibhuti Mahan of Political Science department and Debanit Dutta of Economics department, won the prize for the second-runners-up.
The quiz contest that covered only Assam was held among six teams from students of different departments.
One of the rounds out of five was on Assam tea.
A total of 21 teams participated in the qualifying round of the competition out of which six teams were selected.
The quiz competition was an interesting one and the winner was declared after the tie-breaker.
While the winners, first runners-up and second-runners of the contest were honoured with prize money, mementoes, certificates and other gifts, the other contestants were also given certificates of participation.
The sponsors of the quiz competition were Woolah Tea, Streax Professional, RG’s Publication, Sai Vikash Junior College, GD Future, Infinity, Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology (GIMT) Guwahati and Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (GIPS) Guwahati.
The event was attended by the Registrar of Cotton University, Prof. Diganta Kr Das as the Chief Guest and the Director of Students’ Welfare, Cotton University, Dr Prashanta Sarma as the Guest of Honour.
Northeast Now Editor-in-Chief Anirban Roy, Iftikhar Zaman of Streax Professional, quizzer Pankaj Sarma and a host of Cotton University students were also present at the event.
While speaking on the occasion, Northeast Now Editor-in-Chief Roy announced that the organisation would continue the quiz competition in the coming years and rope in more educational institutions.
Quizmaster Kashyap said due to the Covid19 pandemic, the offline quiz had to be shifted to online platforms but he hoped that such a situation does not happen in the future.
Registrar Prof. Das and Dr Sarma also spoke on the occasion and lauded Northeast Now for organising the quiz competition at the University.
