Koch royal scion Ananta Rai has hinted at grant of ST status to the Koch-Rajbongshi community in Assam.

“Many good news for the Koch-Rajbongshi community are on their way,” said Koch royal scion Ananta Rai.

Ananta Rai made this statement after his discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in Chirang.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid a visit to Ananta Rai, the self-proclaimed king of the Cooch Behar and descendent of royal Koch Rajbongshi family, on Thursday.

Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the residence of Ananta Rai, the head of Koch-Rajbongshi family bears immense significance, especially keeping in mind the upcoming elections in Assam and West Bengal.

Notably, Ananta Rai, is the self-proclaimed king of the Cooch Behar and descendent of royal Koch Rajbongshi family.

Koch-Rajbongshi community has a substantial population in the Lower Assam and adjoining West Bengal.

In Assam, the Koch-Rajbongshi community along with 5 other ethnic communities – Tai Ahom, Chutia, Maran, Matak and Adivasi are demanding Schedule Tribe status for a long time now.
