Koch royal scion Ananta Rai has hinted at grant of ST status to the Koch-Rajbongshi community in Assam.

Ananta Rai made this statement after his discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in Chirang.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid a visit to Ananta Rai, the self-proclaimed king of the Cooch Behar and descendent of royal Koch Rajbongshi family, on Thursday.

Notably, Ananta Rai, is the self-proclaimed king of the Cooch Behar and descendent of royal Koch Rajbongshi family.

Koch-Rajbongshi community has a substantial population in the Lower Assam and adjoining West Bengal.

In Assam, the Koch-Rajbongshi community along with 5 other ethnic communities – Tai Ahom, Chutia, Maran, Matak and Adivasi are demanding Schedule Tribe status for a long time now.
