Assam Assembly elections 2026
Akhil Gogoi said it was โ€œinsultingโ€ that the Congress held a press conference announcing an alliance with four parties while leaving out his party, Raijor Dal.

Guwahati: As the Assam Assembly elections 2026 approach, uncertainity has grown over a possible alliance in the state. Akhil Gogoi, chief of Raijor Dal, went live on Facebook from Kaziranga Orchid Park to express disappointement over the lack of progress in alliance talks with the Indian National Congress.

During the live video, Akhil Gogoi spoke about his frustration over the ongoing political developments. At the same time, he highlighted the uncertainty in the formation of a broader opposition unity against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

He had reportedly been waiting in the Kaziranga area in the hope of holding discussions with Congress leaders regarding a possible alliance. However, no such meeting took place.

Speaking to reporters, Gogoi said it was โ€œinsultingโ€ that the Congress held a press conference announcing an alliance with four parties while leaving out his party, Raijor Dal. Despite expressing disappointment over the development, he maintained that the possibility of an alliance was still open.

โ€œThe ball is now in Congressโ€™s court,โ€ Gogoi said, indicating that the next move must come from the Congress leadership. He also added that he would wait until midnight for any response regarding the alliance discussions.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, who was travelling through the same region, did not meet the Raijor Dal chief. Instead, he continued his journey towards Jorhat after stopping for lunch at a restaurant near the Orchid Park.

Critics said the stopover and missed meeting show that Congress had no plans to discuss an alliance with Raijor Dal.

The developments came a day after Gaurav Gogoi indicated that the Congress had finalised its alliance with four opposition parties in the state. However, he refused clarifying whether the Congress would include Raijor Dal in the proposed alliance.

With the elections approaching, the latest developments have raised fresh questions about the possibility of an united opposition front in Assam. They have also triggered speculation about whether Raijor Dal will eventually join the alliance or contest the elections independently.
