Guwahati: Akasa Air became the first airline to operate from the newly inaugurated terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati on February 22, 2026. The airlineโs inaugural flight departed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, at 13:40 hrs and landed in Guwahati at 16:45 hrs. The return flight from Guwhati departed at 17:20 hrs and reached Mumbai at 21:10 hrs.
The occasion was marked by a lighting ceremony attended by Bhavin Joshi, Co-Founder and Senior Vice President โ Strategy at Akasa Air, senior airport officials, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited. The event also included a cake-cutting ceremony and the presentation of a special boarding pass to the first passenger on the flight.
Developed by Guwahati International Airport Limited and operated by Adani Airport Holdings, the new terminal is a significant milestone in Akasa Airโs expansion in the Northeast, offering passengers a more seamless and comfortable travel experience. The facility enhances operational efficiency and supports the airlineโs broader strategy of leveraging modern infrastructure to strengthen connectivity to emerging markets.

Since its launch in August 2022, Akasa Air has served over 24 million passengers, connecting 26 domestic cities and six international destinationsโ Doha, Jeddah, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait City, and Phuket.
The airline currently operates 34 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with an order for 226 more, all equipped with fuel-efficient CFM LEAP-1B engines that reduce carbon emissions and noise. These features reflect Akasa Airโs commitment to environmental sustainability and its goal of maintaining one of the youngest and greenest fleets in Indian aviation.
