Eminent academician parents of North Lakhimpur donated a library building to Asom Sahitya Sabha in memory of their son on Monday.
Retired principal of Lakhimpur Girls’ College, Dr Mukunda Rajbangshi and retired head of the department, Zoology of North Lakhimpur College and well-known science writer Dr Amiya Rajbangshi on Monday donated the library house to Uttar Lakhimpur Sahitya Sabha in memory of their son Panchal Rajbangshi in North Lakhimpur.
Named ‘Panchal Bhawan’, the library house was built by the academician parents of late Panchal Rajbangshi inside the premise of the office of Uttar Lakhimpur Sahitya Sabha in North Lakhimpur and was inaugurated by Dr Paramananda Rajbangshi, president of Asom Sahitya Sabha.
A public function was held for that occasion which was chaired by Dr Banti Gogoi Howbora, president of Uttar Lakhimpur Sahitya Sabha.
In his inaugural address Dr Parama Rajbangshi said that men connect with the divinity through books and without it human civilization could not sustain.
He urged the public of Lakhimpur district to develop Padmanath Gohain Baruah Kshetra in North Lakhimpur for keeping alive the great heritage of language, literature and culture of Assam.
Sharing his personal thoughts on the occasion, donor Dr Mukunda Rajbangshi expressed his gratitude to the public for showing love, affection and respect to him and his family during the time of losing his son Panchal Rajbangshi, who had died in a road accident in Delhi in 2011.
He also thanked Uttar Lakhimpur Sahitya Sabha for taking such a noble initiative. A book ‘Sukhi Jibonor Anwekshan’, written by Dr Mukunda Rajbangshi was also released on the occasion by Dr Kailash Bhattacharya, professor, Guwahati Medical College.
The meeting was also attended by the vice-president of Asom Sahitya Sabha, Dr Hemanta Kumar Baruah, president of Lakhimpur District Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Sapon Kumar Dutta and many other dignitaries.
