Himalayan vultures Assam: 9 vultures die of suspected poisoning in Dhakuakhana

North Lakhimpur: In yet another incident of suspected human application of toxins on dead cattle, nine vultures allegedly died of poisoning at the Dhakuakhana sub-division in Lakhimpur, Assam.

The incident took place at the Rangabori village in Dhakuakhana on Tuesday.

Nine vultures including eight Himalayan Griffons and one Slender Billed Vulture were found dead along with a black kite in a paddy filled in the village.

The birds were suspected to be poisoned by the toxic diclofenac sodium administered to dead cattle whose carcasses the vultures were feeding on.

An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
