Seven people were killed and 20 others were injured in a road mishap on National Highway-17 at Chataguri in Kokrajhar district on Sunday.

The road mishap took place when the vehicle, in which the deceased and the injured were travelling, was hit by a truck coming from the opposite direction at Chataguri under Bogoribari police station.

Locals said the mishap occurred at around 10.30 in the morning when a speeding bus, bearing registration No AS16-C-1875 collided with a truck bearing registration No AS17-C-3073.

The villagers along with police personnel rushed to the spot and jumped into the rescue of the passengers.

The police said three of the critically injured have been referred to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) while other injured are being treated at the Dhubri Civil Hospital and the Rup Nath Brahma Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar.

The passenger bus was reportedly coming from Sapatgram and was on the way to Dhubri while the truck was on its way to Guwahati when the collision took place.
