Guwahati: In a major breakthrough against illegal arms possession, Jorhat Police recovered a 7.65 mm pistol and arrested three accused during a night-long operation in the Mariani area of Assamโs Jorhat district on Friday.
According to police sources, a specially constituted team launched the operation based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement and possession of illegal firearms.
After conducting extensive searches and surveillance throughout the night, the team successfully traced the suspects and recovered the weapon.
The three accused were taken into custody for questioning, while the seized pistol has been sent for further forensic examination.
Investigators are probing the source of the firearm and examining whether the accused have links to any criminal network or other unlawful activities.
Senior police officials described the recovery as an important achievement in maintaining law and order and curbing the circulation of illegal weapons in the region.
Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of law, and further legal action is underway.
Authorities indicated that the investigation remains active, and additional arrests or recoveries cannot be ruled out.
