A total of 45 persons have been arrested in connection with the sub-inspector recruitment test’s question paper leak case, revealed Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Saturday.

“Out of the 45 persons arrested so far, 43 are directly involved in the SI recruitment test’s question paper leak case,” said DGP Mahanta while addressing a press conference in Guwahati.

While informing that a case was registered with the CID as directed by the chief minister.

Cases were also registered in Nalbari, Lakhimpur and Karbi Anglong, the DGP said.

Informing that discussions are going on with Gauhati University and Dibrugarh University regarding the conduct of recruitment tests, Mahanta said, “Now, Assam Police will conduct recruitment test itself.”

He made it clear that no one would be spared if found involved in the case.

“If any high-level official’s involvement is found, the person will be arrested,” Mahanta said.

Speaking at the press conference, the inspector general of police (IGP), CID, Surendra Kumar informed that two rooms of Hotel Bhargav Grand in the city have been sealed.

The hotel is owned by the question paper leak scam mastermind, former DIG, PK Dutta, who was arrested recently.

“Investigation is on to unearth from where the question paper was leaked,” Kumar said.

Regarding the arrest of one Rupam Das, one of the accused in the case, Kumar said, “Crores of money have been recovered from the residence of Rupam Das.”

Announcing that the trade license of Hotel Bhargav will be cancelled, Kumar said, “Written test was held in the hotel illegally.”

He also informed that a number of hard disks were recovered from Akhay Tel Communication’s office at Dharapur.

The top cop said an appeal has been filed before the court to add three more sections in the CID case seeking cancellation of the trade licenses of Hotel Bhargav and Hotel Grand Bhargav.

Regarding the recovered items in Saroj Sarma, another accused in the case, Kumar said, “A luxury car with a registration number of Tamil Nadu was recovered from Saroj Sarma’s residence. Admit card of the examination and bank cheques were recovered from the office of Akhay Tel Communication at Dharapur.”

A total of 10 accused in the CID case have recorded their statements under section 164 IPC and the accused will not be able to change their statements, Kumar said.

He also revealed that on the basis of the Facebook post of BJP leader Diban Deka, who is one of the prime accused in the case, several persons have been arrested.

Talking to reporters, additional DGP (law and order) GP Singh said: “A total of 5 cases have been registered in connection with the SI question paper leak case and a total of 45 persons have been arrested.”
