The Director General of Assam Police, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, has tested positive for COVID19 on Monday.
The Assam Police chief tested positive for the virus during Rapid Antigen Test.
The news has been confirmed by the chief public relations officer (CPRO) of Assam Police, Rajib Saikia.
According to Assam Police sources, the state DGP tested negative in earlier tests.
But as he suffered from mild fever on Sunday, the Assam Police boss decided to undergo COVID19 test and was found positive for the virus on Monday.
The DGP is currently staying in home quarantine.
Sources said DGP Mahanta’s driver has also tested COVID19 positive.
The Additional Director General ((law & order) of Assam Police, GP Singh in a tweet on Sunday said 2,259 personnel have tested positive till date.
While 1,734 police personnel have recovered, six other positive personnel have lost their lives due to infections so far.
On August 4, DGP Mahanta inaugurated a 50-bedded dedicated Covid Care Center for Police Personnel at the Police Reserve in Barpeta to further strengthen the Corona warriors’ fight against Coronavirus.
