The Darrang police has seized cannabis worth Rs 3 lakhs and arrested four drug peddlers from the Kharupetia area in Assam’s Darrang district.

The accused have been identified as Jaban Ali of Alikash, Omar Ali of Bihudiya,  Ful Mohammad of Niz Nagajan and Inamul Haque of Ghansimalu.

As part their ongoing efforts to make the district free from illegal trade of drugs, a team of police officials conducted a raid in the Kharupetia area on the midnight on Wednesday.

The raid continued from Wednesday midnight till Thursday morning, during which the police team raided several residences in the area.

Superintendent of police, Sushanta Biswa Sarma led the operation after receiving specific inputs about these four drug peddlers.

Officer-in-charge of Kharupetia Police Station, Abhijit Kakati said , ” Acting on a tip off and planning led by SP Sushanta Biswa Sarma,  we raided the residences of four traders dealing in cannabis at Alikash , Bihudiya,  Niz Nagajan and Ghansimalu respectively and seized 10 kg of cannabis.”

“We have arrested the peddlers and necessary legal action is being initiated against them,”Kakati said.

On the other hand, the police also arrested two drug peddlers from Islam Nagar in Dhubri district on Wednesday.

Narcotic tablets, brown sugar and cough syrups were recovered from them.

Two more drug peddlers were also apprehended in Gauripur on Wednesday and the police recovered a huge quantity of cough syrups and other narcotic substances from them.
