More than 300 voters elected the new Dolois of Kamakhya Temple, one of the famous Shaktipeeths in Guwahati.
The Kamakhya Temple on Sunday held the Doloi election in order to form a new management committee for the Shaktipeeth.

Five priests contested the Doloi election this year which was held under the supervision of the Kamrup Metro district administration.
The candidates, who were in the fray for the Doloi election were Mohit Chandra Sarma, Kabindra Prasad Sarma, Himadri (Himu) Sarma, Manash Sarma and Phanindra Nath Sarma.

A total of 384 voters exercised their franchise from 8 am to 3 pm to elect the Bordoloi and Sorudoloi of Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati.
The results of the Doloi election were declared at 4 pm on Sunday.
While Kabindra Prasad Sarma has been elected as the Bordoloi of Kamakhya Temple, Himadri (Himu) Sarma emerged as the Sorudoloi.

Kabindra Prasad Sarma and Himadri Sarma bagged 220 votes and 172 votes respectively.
The former Doloi of Kamakhya Temple, Mohit Chandra Sarma bagged 166 votes and the other two candidates, Manash Sarma and Phanindra Nath Sarma got 162 votes and 26 votes respectively.
Only the people of the Bordeuri community are eligible to cast votes in the Doloi elections of Kamakhya Temple.
Kabindra Prasad Sarma, who won the Doloi election in 2011 but lost to Mohit Chandra Sarma in 2016, has now been re-elected as the Bordoloi of Kamakhya Temple for the second time in 2021.
The tenure of the management committee of the Kamakhya Temple, which is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths located atop the scenic Nilachal Hill, is five years.
