Assam: 2 dreaded dacoits nabbed in Darrang district

Police in Assam’s Darrang district has nabbed two dreaded dacoits.

A pre-planned dacoity attempt was averted following the arrest of the two dacoits.

The duo of dacoits had planned to carry out a dacoity at Kharupetia town in Darrang district.

The arrested dacoits have been identified as Babul Ali (44), a resident of Sialmari and Sanjay Devangi (42), a resident of Netaji Nagar in Kharupetia town.

Two sharp weapons were also recovered from the two arrested dacoits.

Meanwhile, the police has registered a case with the Kharupetia Police Station.

“Timely action successfully averted the dacoity attempt in Kharupetia Chariali area,” the police said.

The arrest of the two dacoits comes close to the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the adjoining district of Sonitpur on February 7.

Security has been tightened across Darrang district ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the adjoining Sonitpur district on February 7.

PM Modi will address a rally at Dhekiajuli in Assam’s Darrang district on February 7.
