“I strongly oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA),” said Jadav Sarma, the newly elected secretary-general of Asom Sahitya Sabha (ASS).
He also paid tributes to the first president of ASS Padmanath Gohain Barua at his Kolibari residence in Tezpur.
“This is a crucial time for the entire Assamese society for we are fighting for our language and culture,” he said.
Visiting the residences of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Roop Konwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala and Natasurjya Phani Sarma, he said, “Time has come to work for the community.”
“The entire state opposes CAA as it is a threat to our language,” he reiterated.
The newly elected ASS president Kuladhar Saikia also expressed his strong resentment.
Former Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia on Thursday was elected as the president of Asom Sahitya Sabha.
The vice-president’s post was won by noted writer Mrinalini Devi, the post of secretary-general was won by Jadav Sarma.
