The COVID19 death toll in Assam has increased to 22 on Wednesday as one 19-year-old Monika Bhumij passed away due to infection.
This is the sixth death reported in Assam on the day and eighth in the last 24 hours.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet on Wednesday evening said: “Sorry to inform that we lost a very young Monika Bhumij (19) to #COVID19.”
The health minister informed that the COVID19 positive patient had severe anemia and sepsis.
Monika, after she was referred from Sivasagar, was undergoing treatment in the ICU of Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH).

“She had severe anemia and sepsis and was in the ICU of Jorhat Medical College after she was referred from Sivasagar. Doctors did their best but unfortunately we couldn’t save her,” Sarma informed.
He has expressed “heartfelt condolences” at the demise of the Monika Bhumij.
Assam has so far registered a total of 13,336 COVID19 positive cases while 8,329 patients have recovered.
