Guwahati: The Assam government has resolved the pending land dispute that had held up the construction of Zubeen Kshetra at Sonapur, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announcing that the project is likely to receive construction approval and enter the tendering phase within the next 10 days.
Sarma made the announcement while speaking to reporters following the state Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. The issue concerned two bighas of land originally owned by Manoj Agarwala, which fell within the area acquired for the proposed memorial complex.
To settle the matter, the state government has allotted Agarwala an alternative two-bigha plot at Chandrapur in exchange for his land at the project site.
According to Sarma, the land arrangement was essential to clear the legal and administrative complications surrounding the original site. The lack of proper land documentation had prevented the government from moving ahead with construction.
With the land issue now settled, the project is expected to progress towards implementation.
The Chief Minister further stated that the expert committee constituted for Zubeen Kshetra had submitted its blueprint, marking another step towards the development of the memorial.
He said construction approval for the complex, also referred to as Samadhi Kshetra, is expected within the next 10 days. The tendering process will begin once the necessary approval is granted.
The resolution of the land dispute is expected to clear the remaining administrative obstacles and facilitate the construction of the memorial dedicated to legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg.
