People from all walks of life and religious faiths paid homage to the five persons including a 17-year-old student, who lost their lives in the massive protests, which had erupted all over the state in the second and the third week of December last year.

On Saturday night, hundreds of people from all sections of the society joined a torch rally taken out here by the All Assam Students’ Union AASU and 30 allied groups demanding to scrap the CAA.
The rally, which started from Jagannath Barooah College, passed through the main thoroughfares including AT Road, Gar-Ali and KB Road.
The protesters holding aloft banners and placards shouted slogans opposing the amended Citizenship Act.
The protestors shouted slogans against the BJP-led governments both at the Centre and the state, the BJP, and the AGP leaders.
Names of PM Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, CM Sarbananda Sonowal, state finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi were mentioned in the slogans.
Over 30 social, cultural, literary, sports and women organizations including SHGs and senior citizens participated in the rally.
AASU state organising secretary Jul Khound, Jorhat AASU regional unit president and the Jorhat district unit assistant general secretary were present in the rally.
Former AASU leaders Niren Sharma, Samiran Bordoloi, Gopal Dutta and Dhrubajyoti Hazarika also participated in the rally.
