Sixteen more positive patients have succumbed to COVID19 infection in Assam on Monday, taking the state’s death toll to 578.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his latest tweet on the state’s COVID19 status said: “Very sad and anguished to inform that 16 more COVID positive patients have succumbed to the disease.”

The COVID19 victims have been identified as Muhirarn Hazarika (76) of Dhemaji; Karnini Barua (62) of Charaideo; Yunus Ansari (74) of Dibrugarh; Jayanta Kumar Gogoi (64) of Charaideo; Chunu Roy (59) of Goalpara; Kanak Das (57) of Dhubri and Tapan Chakraborty (40) of Kamrup Metro

The other victims are Ganesh Kalita (75) of Kamrup Metro; Naranath Chetia (79) of Sivasagar; Dipen Gogoi (33) of Golaghat; Sureshwar Bora (65) and Nagen Borah (72) of Jorhat; Sudhir Ranjan Das (79) of Dhubri; Khogendra Nath Borah (70) of Dibrugarh; Karimuddin (63) of Hojai and Pradip Kumar Das (73) of Kamrup Metro.

“My condolences to all the families. We stand by you in this hour of grief.” health minister Sarma said.

Assam so far has registered a total of 1,56,680 COVID19 positive cases.

A total of 1,27,335 other patients have recovered from the disease so far.

With the demise of 16 more patients, Assam currently has 28,764 active cases.

On Sunday, Assam registered 1,227 new positive cases while 1,795 more patients were discharged after their recovery.
